I like this way more than the unitarian Church I attended. The service is not, um, what's the word, oh yeah, flaky. The people are nice and I love the pastor. She's really a nice lady. I've already loaned out a book to a member "Red and Blue Church Black and Blue God" by Becky Garrison. The pastor is a fan of Bill Maher. Their adult study group read John Shelby Spong and the Church likes him. They read the book that I have "The Sins of Scripture Finding the God of Love In The Bible's Texts of Hate". She's ordering me a book on amazon "Rescuing The Bible From Fundamentalism" also by Spong. I really like this church. Very cool place.

Check to make sure that they believe in the trinity. I have been in many churches in my life and the only thing that really matters is that they believe the bible is the word of God and that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are three beings in one. These things are paramount.

JF - not everyone believes in the Trinity - I do - but you can't force it on someone - or on a church.
No offense meant, and I hope none taken - but you know how that argument goes - and it all goes in a circle.
Moby - coming off that - do you, yourself, believe in the Trinity?

Z, he didn't say anything about forcing anything on anyone. But as a christian, you would want to check that they believe the Bible and the Trinity. Like he said, its paramount. A Christian is someone who follows Christ - by definition. If there's no Trinity, then Jesus is not God, then you shouldn't worship him. And if he's not God, then his death was meaningless - it wasn't a perfect sacrifice. Thats the basics of Christianity.

I know that - but not every denomination has the same things. I don't know any off the top of my head. And I didn't exactly say anything about forcing anything, either.

OMG. Just stop, ok? I know I have had discussions in the past where some people didn't believe in the Trinity and others did. Leave it alone. Move on.

There are other religions that claim to be Christian but are not. All Christian faiths believe in the Trinity, actually all TRUE Christian faiths. I say this as someone who was part of a "Christian" church that did not believe in the Trinity. It was the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints. Mormon. Seventh Day Adventist and Jehovah Witnesses also claim to be Christian but do not believe in the Trinity, because of this they are not Christian by definition in the Apostles Creed. Catholic, Baptist, Methodist....believe in the Trinity.

eh, I don't know how to respond to this thread. All I know is like my church and get along with the members. It is a liberal denomination but it is widely recognized as a Christian church. You can't say that we all believe this or that because we all believe a little differently and we all learn from one another.

Moby, to an extent I agree. My wife and I as just about as liberal as Christians get. I try not to judge and that is very hard for me. What I am trying to convey is not condemnation but what separates beliefs. Salvation is only found through Jesus and the only way that works is if you believe he is God. The only reason I bring up the points I do is to warn people that they may be following a false doctrine. It's true that Christianity has many beliefs but the one thing that remains the same in all Christian Faiths is the Trinity. I am very glad that you found a place to worship, we are still looking. I just want you to know what separates Christian faiths from non-Christian faiths. I was a member of a church that I thought was Christian because they always talked of Jesus and I found out later that I was wrong. That's all.
