I have had two unfortunate experiences as of late at the theater. One is "Marie Antoinette" a great concept of merging the costume drama of Marie Antoinettes life juxtaposed with a post-punk/new wave soundtrack but unfortunately it amounts to very little including an abrupt ending.
The second is "Running with Scissors" based on Augusten Burrows memoir. Very unbelievable with many over the top performances to match the equally far fetched movie. Blah.
Both movies 2 stars out of 4. And I even think thats generous...
Gotta go we're catching Borat now so hopefully my luck at the movies is about to change.

Both movies will be skipped. I personally have not seen anything about Running with Scissors. And Marie Antoinette just looked boring and stupid anyhow. There wasn't enough in the previews to grab my attention.

I haven't even heard of Running with Scissors.
Marie Antoinette kind of caught my attention, but I read a poor review of it, it said it was really just a teen flick, it didn't have a whole lot of substance. I might rent it when it comes out in the video store.

I will say Marie Antoinette had more substance than a teen flick because it's by Sofia Coppola (of whom I loved her previous films The Virgin Suicides and Lost In Translation) but was still flat and empty. Very disappointing.
Oh and pink I didn't know you had gotten married. I noticed your avatar. Congrats. I think I read somewhere red's your hubby, is that right? Either way congrats to you and your significant other.

Wow, Moby, I agree wholeheartedly about Marie Antoinette. I was psyched to see it because I love Virgin Suicides and L.I.T. While there were some good moments (Swartzmann is great) it left me dissapointed. Part of it was the pacing. For some reason, the slow, meandering pace really worked well in "Translation" but I found myself pretty bored at times in this one.
